Diane Hussey – Cert GSMD(T), Cert PPed

My passion for music started from a young girl when my mother used to play me tunes on the old upright piano we used to own. She had remembered them from when she learnt as a child and we had so much fun singing along together.

At the age of 9, I decided to take up the violin but whilst I enjoyed playing in the school orchestra, I never felt that I was totally suited to it and, furthermore, I used to drive my brother crazy whenever I tried to practice.

It was no surprise that shortly after I took up the piano, my future career as concert violinist came to an end!

It was my parents though that first noticed my interest in the piano. We regularly visited some family friends and they used to have an old Bontempi keyboard sitting in the corner of their dining room. I always remember being desperate to get into the room to play on it. My parents obviously picked up on the fact that it was giving so much pleasure and booked me in for piano lessons. I was so excited when I found out!

The rest is history. I started learning the piano at age 12 and have been playing ever since. I am now a fully qualified piano teacher, holding a Certificate in Teaching with the Guildhall School of Music and a Certificate in Pedagogy, and have been teaching privately for over 25 years.

I am a professional member of EPTA, (European Piano Teachers Association), which promotes excellence in piano playing and teaching and hold an enhanced CRB disclosure check.
